The International ThermoWood Association (ITWA) has two types of members, permanent members and cooperative partners (passive membership).

PERMANENT MEMBERSHIP

The permanent membership of ITWA is open for companies that:

• produce thermally modified timber or wood thermal modification equipment
• use production process like ThermoWood®  process, which means that high temperature, normal air pressure and steam are used in production
• accept and follow the rules of the Association
• accept and follow the terms of ThermoWood® trademark use
• pay entrance and membership fees
• has implemented quality control for production.

COOPERATIVE PARTNERSHIP

Cooperative partnership is for companies that cooperate with permanent members. They are, for example ThermoWood® retailers, further processing companies or raw material suppliers.

The companies:

• accept and follow the rules of the Association
• accept and follow the terms of ThermoWood® trademark use
• pay membership fees.

MEMBER BENEFITS

The International ThermoWood Association offers to the (all/new) permanent members:

• results of the common research projects carried out in the years 2000 –
• developed quality control system for production of thermally modified timber
• ThermoWood®  brand (trademark widely known and registered)
• help with promoting ThermoWood®
• debating platform for the member companies (two general annual meetings per year)
• possibility to steer activities of the Association (lobbying, communication, R&D)
• visibility through the Association’s channels (website, social media, conference presentations, posters, articles, etc.)
• contact information about the company to be delivered to all enquirers who are interested in ThermoWood®
• a membership certificate that proves the valid membership of the company

MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES

The membership categories are:

  1. Permanent member, production volume 0 – 4 000 m3/year

  2. Permanent member, production volume 4 001 – 9 000 m3/year

  3. Permanent member, production volume > 9 000 m3/year

  4. Permanent member, kiln manufacturers

  5. Community members

  6. Passive Members (cooperative partners)

MEMBERSHIP FEES

The membership fees and the entrance fee of new members for next year are annually verified at general annual autumn meeting.

The annual membership fees in 2026 are:

  Category 1: 2 640 €/year, invoicing in three parts

  Category 2: 7 260 €/year, invoicing in three parts

  Category 3: 13 200 €/year, invoicing in three parts

  Category 4: 6 600 €/year, invoicing in three parts

  Category 5: 2 640 €/year/member company

  Category 6:

6.1: 3 000 €/year, invoicing in two parts.

6.2: 2000 €/year, invoicing in two parts

The entrance fee of new permanent members is 30 000 €. The entrance fee is possible to pay in three parts in the course of three years that followed. The new member can propose how the ITWA should use the entrance fee. The entrance fee can be used for example for promoting or research activities, that are useful for the new member.
